Similar to the popular Citrix “thin client” networking application, Applica is a low-cost, easy to install alternative for small businesses, schools and homes.

With Applica U2 Zero Client, the user installs the multi-user software on a Windows XP or Vista computer and either installs the Applica multi-function circuit board or an off-the-shelf video card to allow a second user to simultaneously and independently share the computer including its software and data files on a fully functional workstation with a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

With Applica Server, the user uses a standard switch, router or hub, connected to the “Host PC” to connect multiple thin clients to the network.  The Host PC can be a Windows 95, 98, ME or XP PC or a NT Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server.  Applica supports all standard thin clients including Devon IT, Hewlett Packard, Neoware, Sun Microsystems and Wyse models, among others.  Applica’s thin client has enhanced video capability for use with wide-screen HDTVs and Video Signage solutions.  The thin-client workstations launch programs that are installed on the Host PC where the Applica software is installed, as they would with Citrix.

“Applica was designed to be quick and easy to install and simple to administer,” explained Bill Berdux, Applica’s chief marketing officer.  “It is an alternative to the complex, costly networking alternatives that are on the market,” added Berdux.  The user relies on the PC’s operating system and third party security software that they are already using so, setup and administration is very simple and requires no training or costly support.

“Applica allows small businesses that cannot afford the expense of costly, complicated networks to enjoy the same functionality as larger enterprise networks, without the need for extensive technical support and costly equipment,” commented Berdux, adding that, “We are expanding the market for multi-user software applications such as ACT!, GoldMine, QuickBooks, Juris, AbacusLaw, ADS, ClinicPro, Dentrix and hundreds of other practice management programs by making it affordable for small businesses to take advantage of them,” Berdux further explained.
