World’s first digital replacement for a ‘Yale’ cylinder

World-wide patents are pending and one of the oldest lock companies in the UK have snapped up manufacturing and marketing rights for the global market.  Henry Squire & Sons have been making locks since 1780.

Cintor http://www.cintor.co.uk is the design arm of master locksmith John Charnley.  Cintor are distributing the Rim-Combi to master locksmiths in the UK.  Currently manufacturing and assembly takes place in the North East and several local authorities and housing associations have expressed an interest in the product.

Other stand alone access control products rely upon a simple tubular latch for physical security; the Rim-Combi will work in conjunction with numerous existing lock casings including high security British Standard types.  This means for the very first time keyless entry is possible that meets all the security requirements of BS3621 (2004) and this standard is used by all insurance companies, locksmiths and police forces in the UK as a bench mark.

There is a huge potential market in New York where the Rim Combi can control the operation of a lock casing that is used extensively called a ‘drop bolt’.  The drop bolt was invented by an NYPD officer called Segal in the early 1900s and up until now it has not been possible to provide keyless entry.

Rim-Combi is machined from solid brass and stainless steel; there are no cast parts.  Taking about 10 minutes to fit to an existing lock casing, Rim-Combi is also the smallest stand-alone access control system available. Rim-Combi can even be activated remotely using a simple two wire system.  Rim-Combi is about the same size as a modern mobile phone whereas other designs are similar to early mobiles; massive by comparison !  Despite being extremely compact Rim-Combi is fully featured and very secure.

Cintor http://www.cintor.co.uk is an acronym for ‘Concept into Reality’ and the concept behind Rim-Combi came about whilst John Charnley was recovering from a quadruple heart bypass in 2004.  There are several variations of Rim-Combi in the pipeline including a type that can be used on doors with multipoint locking.  Henry Squire & Sons have secured the rights to this development straight off the drawing board and the new lock called ‘Euro-Combi’ should be in full UK production next Easter.
