In a recent issue of South Africa's leading women magazine, True Love, Dr Nikolaus Eberl highlights the need for taking charge of change in your life
Continues Dr Nikolaus, the author of 'The IziCwe Code: Conquer Life': "This is about how you hange your attitude from being a passive observer of life to creating your own opportunities and becoming a source of inspiration for those around you."
Says Dr Nikolaus: "The effect you have on other people is a direct result of your attitude towards life. If you have a positive outlook and approach people with warmth and affection, you're bound to receive the same in return. No matter what your position is in life, your attitude towards others – and especially towards helping them – determines the quality of your life. If you change your outlook from being a go-getter to that of a go-giver, you'll receive more than you ever expected."
"At the gym club I frequent in Johannesburg, Motsiri, the security guard in the men's change-rooms, is a prime example of how to develop a positive attitude, no matter what the circumstances. Being a security guard isn't exactly an inspiring or glamorous occupation. It means standing at a corner of the change-rooms, watching the lockers and at times getting in the way of the gym members who rush in and out of the showers and steam room."
Cocnludes Dr Nikolaus: "I've often pitied these guards who have to maintain their alertness over 12 hours, six days a week, for very little pay and even less job satisfaction. When I met Motsiri, I was overwhelmed by his radiant smile and open, talkative personality. Motsiri's chosen to use his occupation as an opportunity to get to know the members and build up a personal relationship with each of them. He always makes an effort to greet every member, both when they enter the change-rooms and when they leave then. In fact, he's taken his interaction with the gym members to another level by offering a shoe-cleaning service while the guys work out or are showering."
"Recognising that many of them are businessmen, particularly from the IT sector, Motsiri calls his service "The Website", www.shoeshine.co.za – an imaginary address which nonetheless has endeared him to many gym members as they recognise his efforts to uplift himself and look at life as an endless series of opportunities. Already one member's offered him a job as a marketer at his fashion company, and I have no doubt that some day Motsiri will become the "architect of his own empire."
Dr Nikolaus recently introduced a revolutionary new brand leadership model, called The IziCwe Code, at the Global Leaders Africa Summit in Johannesburg, sharing the stage with world renowned leadership gurus Tom Peters, Rudy Giuliani and Michael Porter. Based on twelve years of global research, The IziCwe Code is about internal branding strategies from Emperor Shaka, aimed at engaging the emotional drivers of employee commitment (coined EmotiVators™ by Dr Nikolaus) and building total commitment to delivering the brand promise.
Dr Nikolaus and co-author Herman Schoonbee published “The IziCwe Code: Internal Branding” in 2005 (Academy Press, foreword by Reuel Khoza), which was recently critically reviewed by President Thabo Mbeki in his Letter from the President; using “the analytical tools contained in The IziCwe Code”, the President issued the challenge to government leaders to “generate the kind of commitment that will ensure that …our government at all levels … can be trusted to honour the brand promise!”
Dr Nikolaus’ earlier book “Conquer Life: Personal Branding Strategies from the Emperor” was appraised by The Business Day as “A must for anyone who wants to overcome personal and career challenges”, and Herman Mashaba, Founder of Black Like Me as “A uniquely South African formula for mustering the will to succeed and conquer life.”
