Spyware is a software programs that does things like collects personal data and information, or changes the configuration of your computer, normally without the computer owner knowing it is on the computer and running or giving permission to be loaded.

http://www.1computerspyware.com will help people find ways to know that the computer they are on just recently received an unwanted spyware program such as the following.

1). The computer may display some type of advertisement even if the computer is not on-line or being used on the Internet at that moment.

2). When the computer web browser is first opened the default webpage for that browser is changed or some other settings that were preset.  Some of these programs also make it very difficult for the computer operator to change the settings back to the way they were.

3). A new toolbar may appear on the web browser that was not approved to be loaded.

4). The computer has seemingly slowed down and seems to crash more than normal all of the sudden.

There are types of spyware that are called adware that tracks your personal or sensitive information that the computer operator actually approves what they have done.  For example:  A person might sign up for something free like a music service, but pays for the service by agreeing to receive certain ads rather than giving the company money.  In the terms and conditions it may have said that the company providing the service is allowed to track the computer’s online activities to determine which ads to show.  So people need to know what they are agreeing to when they download a program or sign up for a service or anything for that matter.

Another tricky way unwanted spyware or other programs get loaded on a computer is to install the software during the installation of other software the computer operator may want.  Sometimes at the end of a license agreement or privacy statement it may say the computer operator agrees to allow this to happen.
