Salahuddin, a majlish-e-shura member of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh who was arrested Tuesday night, gave away names of some politically influential people, who patronize the banned Islamist terrorist organization, during interrogation by the seventh Rapid Action Battalion in Chittagong.
He also named a number of businesspeople, who make donations to the militant organization, on the first day of his 10-day remand, RAB sources said.
Lieutenant Colonel Hasinur Rahman, commanding officer of the battalion, confirmed that the interrogators had extracted some important information about political patrons and donors of Jamaatul Mujahideen.
‘Besides, we have got contact numbers of some influential people in the phonebook of a cellular phone seized from Salahuddin,’ he said without elaboration.
Sources quoted Salahuddin as telling the interrogators that the JMB network is far from weakened although it has recently faced shortage of arms and explosives because of frequent raids by law-enforcement and security forces.
Mizan and Samrat, two frontline leaders of the organization, who have so far evaded arrest, will take over the helms now that seven top leaders are behind bars, he said.
The battalion has identified Mizan as the son of the late Suja Mia of Sheikherbhita in Jamalpur but is yet to gather any information about Samrat, RAB sources said.
The battalion sent Salahuddin to the joint interrogation cell in Dhaka Thursday morning.
Salahuddin was arrested from the Silimpur residential area at Colonelhat in the city on Tuesday and the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court placed him on a 10-day remand on Wednesday. By arresting these two figures of JMB, Rapid Action Battalion has successfully completed nabbing of the top figures of the notorious Islamist militant group. Now, countrywide search for other figures of any radical group along with notorious criminals will begin.
