To configure settings, you should tick the check boxes.  By default, Registry Booster performs complete scans - note the checkbox next to Complete Registry Scan is ticked - .

Click the check box from to .  You will notice that all the other selections are now unticked.  You may now configure your preferences.  These preferences are explained in greater detail in the next section.

Just because some registry repair software finds more errors than another, it does not mean that .

Complete Registry Scan

As such, you are to keep in mind that during the Complete Registry Scan, Registry Booster will scan all sections and with Advanced Error Technology is filters errors extensively and securely to ensure complete registry and optimisation.  The following is a list of errors that Registry Booster looks out for:

  • Registry integrity and shell folder entries including My Documents, profiles and favourites.

  • Software locations including missing, orphaned, broken or bad application/Windows paths, and links.

  • Unwanted browser objects.

  • Corrupt Active X/COM Objects.

  • Unused, obsolete Start Menu items.

  • Redundant Startup applications and uninstalled application schedulers.

  • Orphaned shortcuts, temporary (.tmp) files and Scandisk or Checkdisk fragment (.chk) files.

  • Missing or corrupt application IDs.

  • Obsolete shared DLLs and folders.

  • Unused help file references and resources.

  • Residual and unused files.

  • Uninstalled software remnants.

  • Unused and unwanted drivers.

  • File extensions and associations.

  • Unnecessary fonts and recent files list.

The Complete Registry Scan is advisable for your first Registry Scan.  Subsequent partial scans may be made to keep specific items in check, for example, removing residual files from uninstalled software.

A Complete Registry Scan will perform the following scans:

  • Registry Integrity: Certain areas within your registry are mission-critical, i.e., without them you will not be able to function Windows and/or your applications properly. With its Advanced Error Detection Technology Registry Booster will identify any problem rooted deep in the Windows Registry.  This section makes a check upon critical Windows shell folder entries, which include folders such as My Documents, Favorites, Profiles, etc.. Registry Booster repairs all shell folder entries that are not correctly specified in the Windows Registry.

  • File Extensions and Associations: Registry Booster fixes all the file extensions that are no longer associated with applications installed on your computer system. Many application uninstallers remove the main program files and directories from your hard drive, but do not remove the associated file extensions (file associations) from the Registry.

  • Add/Remove Programs: Software should be uninstalled directly either through the standard Windows Add or Remove Programs function accessed directly through the Windows Control Panel.  When the program's uninstall feature or when programs are uninstalled incorrectly, an entry remains in the Windows Add or Remove Programs. Registry Booster detects these entries and removes them accordingly.

  • Custom Controls: During installation, applications register custom control locations into the Windows Registry.  Registry Booster scans through all the registered custom controls to repair an invalid entries such as entries pointing to files which no longer exist on your hard drive.

  • Shared DLLs: Registry Booster analyses your registry to detect entries that refer to shared control files or Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) that are not or were never on your hard drive. Certain entries such as application DLLs may remain uninstalled and thus orphaned from parent applications.  Registry Booster detects all such entries and repairs them.

  • Software Locations: Your registry contains locations for the various software applications that you have installed.  Each application registers itself to your registry during installation. Registry Booster performs complete heuristic analysis to locate references to software applications that no longer exist on your system or are no longer present at the specified locations.

  • Startup Programs: Some applications may be configured to run as soon as you start up Windows while others may automatically configure some processes to run automatically at start up without the need for user configuration (e.g., schedulers, Anti-spyware guards and Windows Update). As applications register themselves with the Windows Registry, they also indicate references to the processes and locations that the operating system needs to run upon start up.  Registry Booster analyses the Windows Registry to repair these references.

  • Help and Resources: All applications following Microsoft standards must register their help files to the Windows Registry.  Registry Booster looks for missing, erroneous or orphaned links.

  • Temporary Files and Shortcuts: Registry Booster also removes shortcuts that have been orphaned and such files as .tmp and .chk unnecessarily resident on your computer.

  • Windows Fonts: All fonts are registered in your Windows Registry and Registry Booster will look for all those references to fonts that do not exist or are no longer available on your computer.

  • Virtual Devices: Registry Booster also looks for virtual devices that do not exist or are no longer available on your computer.
